My favourite poetry collection is Love And Zen In The Outer Hebrides (Canongate), partly because it is written by my husband, Kevin MacNeil, and partly because it is a beautiful thing. Here are two poems from its lovely pages:
i should have kissed you
i should have kissed you,
not whispered as
the sea does when i walk
head bowed, through the cold foam
words, seahorses
i dreamt i was the seafloor and you were the weight of the ocean pressing
down on me, your quiet words of love in my ear now and again,
golden, elegant and strange, like seahorses, like grace-notes, tiny
floating saxophones
